Description

The Mielène Newborn Nest is designed for the earliest weeks, when a baby cannot yet pull a blanket back up or shift away from warmth. It is a softly bounded sleeping space, open at the top, gently raised at the sides so that small bodies feel held without being covered.

The outer shell is woven cotton muslin, embroidered with our signature logo, bees and natural motifs: wheat, barley, and small wildflowers. Each motif was hand-drawn and designed by our founder before being stitched into the fabric. The interior is soft 100% cotton fleece, brushed to a softness that feels closer to breath than to cloth. A light 100 g/m² padding sits between the two layers, enough to keep a newborn warm through a 20°C dawn, light enough to never overwhelm.

One size, approximately for a baby in 46–62 cm. For newborns who are not yet rolling or turning. Once your baby begins to move on their own, we recommend transitioning to the Mielène Summer Sleeping Bag.

Safety Notes

A few quiet rules we follow with our own children, and that we often recommend to our customers.

  • Keep the cot bare. No pillows, no blankets, no toys, no stuffed animals, no bumpers, no positioners. Sleep is safest when there is nothing in the bed but your baby.
  • Back to sleep. Always place your baby on their back, on a firm, flat surface, for naps and for the night.
  • The Mielène Nest is intended for use only while your baby is not yet able to roll, turn, or move independently. Stop using it as soon as your baby begins to shift in bed. Move on to the Mielène seeping bag (Doux Rêves) for babies.
  • Check the fit. The neck opening of a sleeping bag should be snug enough that the bag cannot ride up over the face.
  • Never add a blanket over a sleeping bag. The bag is designed to be the only layer.
  • Mind the room. A cool room, around 16–20°C is safer for sleep than a warm one. Match the sleeping bag weight to the temperature, not to the season on the calendar.

These guidelines reflect safe-sleep recommendations from leading paediatric authorities. Less in the cot is always safer.

A Rhythm for Rest

Babies are born without a sense of day or night. They learn it from us. Long before any words, they begin to read the small signals around bedtime: the dimming light, the lower voice, the warmth of bath water, the same soft fabric drawn close each evening.

Mielène was designed with this rhythm in mind. The act of putting on a sleeping bag becomes one of those signals; gentle, repeatable, the same each night. Over weeks and months, it becomes the small ritual that tells a child, without words: this is rest.

The soothing cloth belongs to the same rhythm. Small enough for one hand and soft enough to keep close, it can be there from the very first days, held during a feed, tucked in at sleep, carried from cot to car seat to the first nights away from home. In time it becomes more than fabric: a familiar companion that travels with your child into rest, wherever they are.

There is no method here. Only the quiet certainty that consistency, softness, and time create the gentlest kind of routine there is.

100% COTTON • OEKO-TEX® CERTIFIED •

Every Mielène piece is made from woven cotton muslin or 100% cotton baby plush, chosen for breathability, softness, and the way each fabric improves with washing. All fabrics are OEKO-TEX® certified, meaning every fiber, thread, and dye has been independently tested and found free from substances harmful to human health.

The signature motifs, the bees, wheat, barley, wildflowers are hand-drawn and designed by our founder, then embroidered onto the fabric in tonal thread. The Soothing Cloth is made entirely from ultra-soft 100% cotton fleece with no polyester. Nothing that could release microplastics when held in the mouth or chewed during teething.

Every piece is cut, sewn, and finished by hand in Hungary, in small batches, by people we know.
